The vision of holistic rehabilitation comprises the lifelong care and support of people with spinal paralysis. To meet the challenges of ensuring that patients lead a self-determined life with as much independence as possible, the Swiss Paraplegic Foundation today operates a comprehensive and integrated network of services comprising the rescue, medical primary care, initial rehabilitation and primary aftercare, as well as lifelong support in all the relevant areas, such as work, family life, society, leisure, and sport, or advice on matters ranging from obstacle-free building to financial support for patients, as well as the development and distribution of orthopaedics technology, aids or vehicles. The services entailed are delivered by a number of different organisations within the Swiss Paraplegic Group:
Swiss Paraplegic Foundation:
Fundraising, direct financial support for paraplegics, promoting the work of the Swiss Paraplegics Association, running the Swiss Paraplegic Centre, running Swiss Paraplegic Research, running other institutions belonging to it, or supporting other institutions which champion the cause of people with spinal paralysis.
Benefactors' Association of the Swiss Paraplegic Foundation (society / affiliated company):
Fundraising for the holistic rehabilitation of people with spinal paralysis via membership contributions; paying benefactors a benefit of up to CHF 200,000 if they suffer spinal paralysis in the event of an accident.
Swiss Paraplegic Centre (limited liability company / subsidiary):
Highly specialised clinic in the area of paraplegiology; primary care, initial rehabilitation, lifelong medical aftercare, clinically initiated research.
Swiss Paraplegics Association (society / affiliated organisation):
Umbrella organisation for Switzerland's 27 regional wheelchair clubs; lifelong support for patients in all the relevant areas, such as work, family, society, law, obstacle-free building, travel, and wheelchair sport.
Swiss Paraplegic Research (limited liability company / subsidiary):
Holistic, society-related rehabilitation and functional research for making sustainable improvements to the long-term quality of the lives of people with spinal injuries.
Orthotec AG (limited liability company / subsidiary):
International, specialist supplier of orthopaedic technology, rehabilitation technology, wheelchair mechanics, vehicle adaptation, and incontinence items.
Parahelp (society / affiliated organisation):
Support for people with spinal paralysis in the community nursing environment or living at home throughout Switzerland.
SIRMED Swiss Institute for Rescue Medicine (limited liability company / subsidiary):
Initial and further training, professional rescue and recovery, avoidance of secondary injuries at the scene of the accident.
GZI Seminar and Conference Hotel (subsidiary organisation):
Running a seminar and conference hotel in the grounds of the Swiss Paraplegic Centre (SPC) with 45 obstacle-free rooms.
